Lions Eyeglass Recycling Program

The Lions recycle old prescription glasses and distribute them to others who may not otherwise be able to obtain them.  Our recycled glasses go to low income areas and overseas to such countries as Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and  Nicaragua.

The eyeglass journey begins when you drop your used glasses into a Lions recycle box.  Lions periodically pick up the contents of these boxes and they are shipped to the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation in Portland for initial sorting.  They are then delivered to a Lions Eyeglass Recycle Center.  In Oregon the Department of Corrections has partnered with the Lions to provide this service at the Coffee Creek Correctional Institute.  Female inmates at Coffee Creek clean, determine the prescriptions for and do a final pre-mission sort of the glasses.

The eyeglasses are then distributed by mission teams in their targeted areas.  Mission teams are comprised of Lions or Lions Partners such as Mercy Corp and Northwest Medical Teams.  More detailed information can be found at theOregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundationwebsite.
