BMCC Car Show
The Blue Mountain Community College Cruisin for Scholarships Car Show is held every May. Benefits from the show go directly to the BMCC Foundation and are used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the diesel repair program at the college.
The car show has attracted entries from all over the Pacific Northwest and has had over one hundred vintage cars and motorcycles to view. Entries are judged for a variety of criteria and several trophies are awarded. The Lions sponsor at least one trophy each year.
As part our ongoing support of BMCC, Pendleton Lions Club members set up a hamburger concession stand at the car show. The stand is located near Pioneer Hall and sell dogs and burgers, including our famous Lion Burger smothered in grilled onions.
All proceeds from concession sales go directly to the diesel program scholarship fund. These funds can be used in a variety of ways to help diesel students graduate. Students in the past have been helped with tool purchases, textbook purchases and has even provided gas money to help students afford their commute to the campus in Pendleton.
Blue Mountain's diesel program provides students with a state of the art education in diesel repair. Modern diesel engines are complex and rely on computerized interfaces to function. Students graduating the diesel program leave with a skill set in great demand that pays a family wage. Diesel mechanics are a needed resource in eastern Oregon with its heavy emphasis on agriculture.
The Pendleton Lions Club encourages everyone to come down to the car show, look at all the fascinating entries and buy a Lion Burger. You will have a great time and support an important program that provides needed employment opportunities in our community.
